Includes sketches of friends, family, personal events, travel, demonstrations of techniques for students, events occurring on the North Texas State University / University of North Texas campus, events related to the Sons of the American Revolution (Local, State and National), sketches and notes of committee meetings for university meetings and for meetings of the Denton Greater Arts Council and the North Texas Area Art League, and from worship services. Includes notes, drawings, collage, preparatory work for other artworks and publications, etc. Artwork done in pen, pencil, watercolor, colored inks, etc.

James Jefferson Johnson, Jr., born in Sweetwater, Texas. Received a Bachelor of Art and Education at West Texas State University, where he met his wife, Dr. Mary Lynn Johnson. He received a Master's Degree at University of Texas, El Paso, and a Ph.D. in Art Education from Pennsylvania State University. He joined the art faculty at North Texas State University (later the University of North Texas) in 1968, where he taught until 1995.
